More Heavy Rain Forecast for Coromandel

11 June 2014, 10:07 PM

Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group is urging Coromandel residents to take extra care from tonight through to Friday morning as another band of heavy rain is due to hit the area between Whitianga and Tauranga.

MetService predicts between 120 millimetres and 180 mm of rain will fall over that time.

The rain will come as waterways and soils are already saturated by heavy rain on the Coromandel over the past few days.

Civil Defence programme manager Greg Ryan said the forecast rain meant more potential for hazardous driving conditions, slips, surface flooding and elevated waterway levels.

“We urge people to stay up to date with advice from officials and to take the potential for road and flooding hazards into account.”
