Emergency Management Group Plan 2016 - 2021

Consultation on a new Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Plan is open for one month ending 12 midday Monday 26 February, 2018.

The Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group of agencies welcomes your input.

Legislation requires Civil Defence Groups to add strategic recovery planning (highlighted in red within the document) into their respective Group Plans by 1 June 2018.

Recent events (like the Kaikoura earthquake) have shown that recovery after an event can be more complex than communities and Councils have expected, extremely taxing on resources, need a strategic approach and may identify necessary actions that can be taken BEFORE an emergency to help the community recover faster.

Political leaders, Chief Executives and senior managers face decisions about expenditure and the level of recovery they will undertake. Agencies and community groups that are involved in these incidents need to understand how these proposed changes affect them.

Individuals also need to realise that whether funds are provided through national or local government organisations, ultimately the individual is paying personally through tax or rates. Therefore, individuals - especially those in areas frequently at risk - should examine these proposed changes too.

We invite you to comment on the parts highlighted in red within the document linked below.
